About this book

Exposing Yazīd is a long study by Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, the Pakistani Sunni scholar who founded Minhaj-ul-Quran International. Written from within the Ahl al-Sunna tradition and originally composed in Urdu, it argues from the Qur'an, hadith and history that Yazid ibn Mu'awiya was a disbeliever and was directly responsible for the killing of Imam Husayn.

Its sixteen chapters open with the merits of the Ahl al-Bayt, then set out evidence that Yazid ordered the killing, rejoiced at it and insulted the Imam's head in his court, and that his forces violated Madina and the Ka'ba. Long chapters collect the views of Companions, Successors and later scholars, from Abu Hanifa and Ahmad ibn Hanbal to Ibn Kathir and al-Suyuti, on cursing Yazid and on his disbelief, and one chapter examines the 'Constantinople hadith' often cited in his defence.

It will interest readers studying Karbala in Sunni scholarship and intra-Muslim debates about Yazid. Translated by Tahir Mahmood Kiani and Waqas Ahmed Amin. Published by Minhaj-ul-Quran Publications, 2025.
