About this book
The third volume of Shaykh Arif Abdul Hussain's Islam and God-Centricity series asks what the articles of faith are actually for. Drawn from Muharram lectures given at the Imam Hasan Centre in Sydney in September 2017, it starts from the Quranic idea that all of humanity is God's khalifa (vicegerent) on earth, called to grow intellectually, morally and spiritually, and argues that beliefs should serve that growth rather than fence off exclusive groups.
Across twelve lectures the author revisits the unity of God and the meaning of worship; what the terms kafir, kufr, mushrik and shirk really denote; divine decree and destiny; divine justice and ihsan; prophethood and imamate; mediation, intercession and symbolic practices; and the Day of Judgement. Each belief is treated as something to be lived, not merely professed.
A reflective companion for readers thinking through Shia and wider Muslim doctrine. Published by Sajjadiyya Press, 2020.
