About this book
The fourth volume of the Islam and God-Centricity series collects ten lectures Shaykh Arif Abdul Hussain gave at the Organisation of Islamic Learning in Toronto in Muharram 1440 (September 2018). Its central idea is the distinction between the 'essence' of religion – surrender to God and growth towards Him – and its 'forms': the laws, rituals and institutions shaped by particular times and places.
Through this lens the author addresses religious exclusivism and the diversity of faiths, the 'no-finality' of sharias, the mutability of Quranic regulations, the milla of Ibrahim, the Quran as a contextual expression of the heavenly Book, the finality of the Sharia, and salvation, which he argues is open to all who sincerely surrender to God and do good. A short 'Final Word' closes with a tribute to Imam Husayn.
Of interest to readers exploring pluralism, Islamic law and interfaith questions. Published by Sajjadiyya Press, 2022.
