Description
g In the Arab lunar calendar, even before Islam, there are four
“forbidden” months, one of which is Muharram. “Forbidden” in the
sense that during those months, people would abstain from any form
of war or attack or killing, which were rampant in the everyday life of
the tribes in pre-lslamic times (Jahiliyya ‘the age of ignorance’) for
whatever reason, at the cost of being forever shamed if this
forbiddance is breached.
